Jim Cariello, with the Habitat Division in Petersburg, officially retired April 24, 2009!
His career with ADF&G has spanned 21 years. He started with the former FRED division in 1978, working at the Crystal Lake Hatchery. In 1980, he worked briefly with the USF&WS, before returning to the ADF&G and the Commercial Fisheries Division. During his tenure there, notable actions included supervision of sonar and fish wheel operations for the Stikine Dam project, participated in the development of the USFS Channel Type Classification system, and provided stream and fisheries analysis for the 1997 TLMP effort.
Jim joined the Habitat Division in 1998. During the last 11 years, notable actions include: a three-year study of Tongass road conditions, and the review of numerous USFS timber sales, DOT&PF road and airport projects, and large mine projects on the Stikine.
As a result of Jim's retirement, and restructuring of the Habitat Division, our Petersburg office has closed. All projects and permits previously covered by the Petersburg office will now be handled out of Douglas.
